How we calculate it

Runtime = capacity (Wh) × 0.85 ÷ 55 W

For a 24-hour outage you need about 1,560 Wh (1,320 Wh of energy plus inverter losses). Running other devices at the same time? Add them in the runtime calculator.

Tips to run your refrigerator longer

  • Keep the door closed: a full fridge stays cold about 4 hours without power, so you can also cycle the power station on and off.
  • The compressor needs up to ~1,200 W for a second at start-up. Choose a unit with at least 1,800 W surge.
  • Older fridges (pre-2010) can use twice the energy. Check the yellow EnergyGuide label for annual kWh and divide by 365.

Frequently asked questions

How long will a 1000Wh power station run a refrigerator?

About 15.5 h, based on an average draw of 55 W and 85% inverter efficiency.

How many watts does a refrigerator use?

Typically about 150 W while running and up to 1,200 W for a moment at start-up. Averaged over time it draws about 55 W because it cycles on and off.

What size power station do I need for a 24-hour outage?

At least 1,560 Wh. The smallest model in our comparison that covers it is the EcoFlow DELTA 2 Max (2,048 Wh, about 31.7 h).
